Following the official opening of the winter initiation season earlier this month, Amathole District Municipality (ADM) Council Speaker Onke Mgunculu officially began his district-wide bush visits in Great Kei Local Municipality, on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.ADM Speaker formed part of a team that comprised of members of both Amathole District and Great Kei Initiation Forums; the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Department of Health and Right To Care. The team visited 3 initiation schools in Nyarha and Sotho villages, respectively.
The team evaluated the initiates' health, verified their paperwork, and where necessary provided water in the cases of observed dehydration.
Cllr Mgunculu will continue with his visits on Friday, in Mnquma Local Municipality.
