MEDIA INVITE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AMATHOLE DISTRICT TO HOST WORLD AIDS DAY IN MNQUMA LM ADM HEADQUARTERS:

WEDNESDAY, 06 NOVEMBER 2024

“Together, we can build a brighter, more equitable future for all” These words echo Amathole District Municipality’s commitment to construct a future where health and human rights coexist harmoniously, particularly in the context of the HIV response. Through the District AIDS Council [DAC], ADM jointly with Mnquma LM, Department of Health and other key stakeholders, will be hosting a series of build-up events leading to the commemoration of the District World AIDS Day on 22 November 2024. Themed “Equal Rights, Equal Care”, focus will be on actively reducing all forms of HIV-related stigma and discrimination which are significant barriers to equality for marginalized communities.

The DAC will also prioritise and address gender-based violence, which is one of the most serious human rights violations. Further engagements with affected and infected groups ranging from adolescents, young people, women from diverse backgrounds, gay men, transgender individuals, sex workers, and people on medication will be key in creating impactful solutions.

These important discussions will take place as follows:

  • Event: Amathole District World AIDS Day Commemoration
  • Date: 22 November 2024
  • Venue: Cuba Municipal Hall, Mnquma Local Municipality
  • Time: 11h00
